Former Minister of Transport and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has launched a fiery campaign to block President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, declaring that Nigeria needs a rescue mission from what he described as “a government of hardship.”
Amaechi, who recently dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC), announced his full allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during a dramatic homecoming rally in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, where he was welcomed by a massive crowd of supporters.
“The hunger in the land is real. The suffering is visible. And if you’re not tired of Tinubu, I’m tired,” he said bluntly, adding, “ADC is here to make Nigerians happy again.”
The former APC presidential aspirant urged Nigerians, especially his Rivers supporters to massively register with the ADC, which he says now represents the hope of ordinary citizens.
“If the rich are spending ₦4 million monthly on electricity, only God knows what the poor are going through. The President says he doesn’t care. But we do,” Amaechi stated.
He also announced his official resignation from the APC, joining a powerful coalition that includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola, and former SGF Babachir Lawal, all of whom have aligned to challenge Tinubu’s grip on power.
While addressing the crowd, Amaechi pledged to support any candidate who emerges through a transparent ADC presidential primary in 2027. “We insist on a free, fair and credible process. Whoever emerges will get our total backing.”
He further declared zero tolerance for electoral malpractice, saying, “I will not align with anyone who believes in writing results. Rivers State must stop being a result-writing theatre.”
Amaechi’s return parade saw him trekking several kilometres from Waterlines to Old GRA, receiving cheers from residents who lined the streets in solidarity.
