The Adamawa State Government has invested N2 billion in agricultural inputs to boost food production and tackle youth unemployment. Commissioner for Agriculture, Prof. David Jatau, announced the initiative in Yola, saying the intervention targets all 21 local government areas.
As part of the plan, 300 hectares of farmland will be developed in each LGA and allocated to 300 youths. These beneficiaries will receive subsidized fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides and will keep 100% of their harvests. The programme has already commenced in six LGAs: Madagali, Michika, Hong, Maiha, Demsa, and Ganye.
Jatau emphasized that the support is being given earlier this year to ensure farmers are well-prepared before the rainy season. Already, 10,000 bags of fertilizers are available for distribution.
He added that the programme is designed to reduce hunger, empower youths, and curb violence caused by poverty and lack of opportunity. Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was commended for his proactive role in funding and driving the initiative.
